How to get a marriage license?
In the state of Florida, you must go to a county court judge or clerk of the circuit court to get your marriage license.
What you need to know
- Check with the courthouse to see if you need to make an appointment. Some counties require you schedule an appointment for a marriage license while others accept walk-ins.
- Some counties give you the ability to apply for the license online, but you have to go to the actual court to pick up the license.
- You and your partner must BOTH be present when going to get your marriage license.
- Both of you must bring a photo ID, like a driver's license, passport, ID card, etc.
- The fee for a marriage license is $86.
- You can get a $25 discount off of the marriage license fee if you complete our course and bring the certificate with you to the courthouse.
- You are able to get married anywhere in the state of Florida regardless of what county you received your Florida marriage license.
60 day deadline
Required Documents
You and your partner will need the following documents and items when you go to get your marriage license.
- Federal or State Government Photo ID
- Driver's License
- Valid Passport
- State Issued ID
- U.S. Military ID
- Alien Registration card
- Social Security Number
- You won't need your social security card, just the number.
- Non-U.S. citizens may provide one of the ID's stated above as they do not have a social security number.
- Form of Payment
- This is for paying the fee for the license
- Dissolution of Marriage (if you have been married before)
- Must have this as well as the exact date of the last divorce, death or annulment.
- Premarital Course Certificate (If you intend to get the 3-day waiting period waived)
- Once you complete the course requirements, you will be able to download the certificate on your dashboard.
- You will need the physical certificate in order to use it at the courthouse.
If you are getting your marriage license in Dixie, Hardee, Ley, or Taylor County, we have to mail the certificate to you. They will only accept the original certificate we provide to you, not the one printed from your account. To avoid having to wait for your certificate in the mail, you can go to a neighboring county that does accept the printed certificate. You are able to get married anywhere in Florida regardless of what county your received your Florida Marriage License.

Important 60 day deadline
